Rodeo Parade in Downtown Homestead, Florida Saturday January 26 starting at 11:00 A.M.
Rope off the last weekend of January, 2008, for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association sanctioned 59th Annual Homestead Championship Rodeo and Frontier Days, presented by the Homestead Rodeo Association.
Seven championship events will be featured; bare-back and saddle bronco riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls' barrel racing and the crowd favorite bull riding. In between events there will be entertainment by rodeo clowns, top specialty acts & the Homestead Everglades Posse drill team.
This year's rodeo will again be hosted by 2005 PRCA announcer of the year Wayne Brooks from Lampasas, Texas. Brooks, a commercial voice talent, has served as five time emcee at the Ms. Rodeo America Pageant. He has announced at National Rodeo Finals and numerous other famous and regional rodeos including the Calgary Stampede, Turquoise Circuit Finals, Mountain States Circuit Finals and Copenhagen Cup Finale in Las Vegas.
The Homestead Rodeo is one of the first of the new circuit year. Top-ranking cowboys from all over the nation come to begin accumulating points toward PRCA national finals in December. The purse amount & added money to be announced soon.
Prior to the kick-off of the rodeo, there will be a free Kids' Day at the Rodeo Arena from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 24th. The rodeo clowns, bull fighters & cowboys will be there to entertain. Kid's can enjoy a petting zoo, face painting, pony rides, mechanical bull rides and photo opportunities with a real Brahma bull.
Events begin in the rodeo arena at 8 p.m. on Friday Family Night. Saturday morning the free Rodeo Parade, steps off in downtown Homestead at 11 a.m., featuring the newly crowned rodeo queen, floats, marching bands, horse units, clowns and a variety of vehicles.
At 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, the championship rodeo continues with the
seven rodeo events plus a specialty act.
Just as important as the cowboys,
are the clowns, barrel men and bull fighters who help distract the raging bulls
from a thrown cowboy. Homestead will have some of the best in the business at
this year's rodeo.
Ringing the rodeo arena will be a variety of food and beverage booths provided by nonprofit organizations in Homestead. For the kids' enjoyment there will be pony rides and a petting zoo, and an opportunity to have a photo taken on a real Brahma bull. For the more adventuresome there will be mechanical bull rides.
The Homestead Rodeo Association is a not-for-profit organization whose
mission is to promote the sport of rodeo and other equestrian activities to
benefit the Greater Homestead/Florida City community and develop and support our
youth through these activities.
