This brochure is designed to provide the public with
information and a summary of regulations pertaining to the Crew
Wildlife and Environmental Area. To make it easier to
learn about regulation changes on this area, regulations that are
new or differ substantially from last year are shown in bold.
For the exact wording of fish and wildlife laws and regulations,
see Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Wildlife
Code on file with the Secretary of State and state libraries.
This brochure and quota hunt application should provide the
information necessary for you to plan your recreational
activities.
For additional information pertaining to hunting, trapping and
fishing, consult the Florida Hunting Handbook, and the Florida
Freshwater Sport Fishing Guide. These publications are available
from any Commission office as well as county tax collectors and
their subagents.
PERMITS, STAMP AND LICENSE INFORMATION:
Persons utilizing the wildlife and environmental area are
required to have appropriate licenses, stamps and permit for
hunting or fishing. Florida residents who are 65 years of age or
older, and residents certified totally and permanently disabled
as determined by a licensed Florida physician, Armed Forces or
Veterans Administration, may obtain exemption certificates for
most licenses, stamps and permits from county tax collectors.
Hunters under age 16 and Florida residents in the U.S. Armed
Forces, not stationed in Florida and home on leave with orders in
possession are exempt from most permit, stamp and license
requirements on this area.
Hunting License, Fishing License, Trapping License, and Archery,
Muzzleloading Gun, Wildlife Management Area, Wild Turkey and
State Waterfowl permits may be purchased from county tax
collectors, their subagents, or by telephone.
Unless exempted, all hunters on this wildlife and environmental
area must have the following in their possession and display them
upon request of any Commission employee.
1. Hunting license: Information on the categories and costs of
hunting licenses is available in the Florida Hunting Handbook.
2. Wildlife Management Area permit: This $25 permit is required
to hunt on this area.
3. Quota permits: A no-cost special quota hunt permit is required
to hunt on this area, there are no exemptions. There are 25
special quota hunt permits available for each of the 9-day
archery and the 9-day muzzleloading gun hunts. Special quota hunt
permit applications are available from county tax collectors or
their subagents on or about June 1. To apply for a permit, obtain
a special quota hunt application and follow the printed
instructions.
Transfer of Permits--Quota hunt permits are transferable. The
sale or purchase of any quota permit is prohibited.
4. Archery Permit: This $5 permit is required when hunting during
the archery season.
5. Muzzleloading Gun Permit: This $5 permit is required when
hunting during the muzzleloading gun season.
6. Fishing License: Information on the categories and costs of
fishing licenses is available in the Florida Freshwater Fishing
and Area Regulation pamphlet.
OPEN SEASONS:
1. Archery--September 11 through 19,
Corkscrew Marsh Unit only.
2. Muzzleloading Gun--October 16 through 24,
Corkscrew Marsh Unit only.
3. Fishing--Permitted throughout the year.
4. FroggingPermitted throughout the year.
LEGAL TO TAKE:
Only those species listed below are legal to take.
Wild Hogs--Wild hogs may be taken only during archery and
muzzleloading gun hunts and only in the Corkscrew Marsh Unit.
BAG AND POSSESSION LIMITS:
Wild hog--No size or bag limit.
GENERAL AREA REGULATIONS:
In addition to the regulations which follow, all general laws and
regulations relating to wild animal life or freshwater aquatic
life shall apply unless specifically excepted for this wildlife
and environmental area. Hunting or the taking of wildlife or fish
on this area shall be allowed only during the open seasons and in
the manner set forth.
1. Constructing or erecting a permanent or semi-permanent
structure is prohibited.
2. Fires other than campfires at approved campsites are
prohibited.
3. It is unlawful to set fire to any forest, grass or woodlands
or for any individual or group of individuals to build a warming
fire or campfire and leave same unextinguished (Chapter 590,
Florida Statutes).
4. It is unlawful for any person to leave any garbage or refuse
or in any way litter.
5. It is unlawful to damage, destroy or possess any live or dead
tree or other vegetation.
6. Driving a metal object into any tree, or hunting from a tree
in which a metal object has been driven, is prohibited.
7. Planting of trees, shrubs or other vegetation is prohibited.
8. It is illegal to hunt over bait or place any bait or other
food for wildlife on this area.
9. No person shall release any wildlife on this area.
10. Public access is prohibited in areas posted as
"Restricted" for the protection of endangered or
threatened species or enviromentally sensitive areas.
11. It is illegal to disturb or remove any manmade, cultural, or
natural materials or features, including fences.
GUNS OR DOGS:
12. The possession or discharge of guns is prohibited except
during periods in which their use for hunting is allowed.
13. Dogs are prohibited, except that dogs not normally used for
hunting and kept under restraint may be possessed.
14. No person shall allow any dog to pursue or molest wildlife.
15. No person shall have any gun under his control while under
the influence of alcohol or drugs.
16. The possession of any firearm containing shells or
cartridges, or any capped or primed muzzleloading gun is
prohibited on any public campground or check station area.
17. The discharge of firearms is prohibited on, from or across
any campsite or check station area.
VEHICLES:
18. Any vehicle used on the area must have a current license tag
or an off-road vehicle registration decal and validation sticker.
19. Vehicles shall not be parked in such a manner as to obstruct
roads, gates or firelanes.
20. Vehicles may be operated only on named or numbered roads.
21. No motor vehicle shall be operated or parked on any part of
the wildlife area designated and posted as "CLOSED"
because of inclement weather, poor road conditions, construction,
management activities or wildlife surveys.
22. The use of tracked vehicles, motorcycles, all terrain
vehicles (ATVs) or vessels, except canoes or kayaks, is
prohibited.
23. The use or possession of horses is restricted to designated
equestrian trails.
CAMPING:
24. The use of trailers or recreational vehicles for camping is
prohibited.
25. Primitive camping is allowed at designated sites with written
authorization from the South Florida Water Management District.
CHECK STATIONS:
26. Persons may enter and exit the area only at designated access
points (see map). Foot access is allowed along the entire
boundary of Flint Pen Strand Unit. For current information on

27. Hunters are required to check in and check out at a
designated check station.
28. Persons may enter and exit the Corkscrew Marsh Unit only
between sunrise and sunset.
SEARCH:
29. A wildlife officer may search any camp, vehicle or boat when
he or she reasonably believes a violation has been committed.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
1. This land was purchased by the Save Our Rivers (SOR) program
and other acquisition projects. The purpose of a wildlife and
environmental area is to conserve and protect unique and
irreplaceable wildlife habitats, restore areas to their original
condition as much as possible, and allow controlled multiple
recreational and educational uses consistent with this purpose.
2. Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975 must have passed a
Commission-approved safety course prior to being issued a hunting
license.

COOPERATION REQUESTED:
Please do not discharge firearms at anything other than legal
game while in this area. Target practice and the random discharge
of firearms have become increasing threats to the quality of the
hunting experience.
PLEASE DO NOT LITTER. TAKE TRASH OUT WITH YOU.
Since you have the privilege to use this wildlife and
environmental area, go the extra mile to exercise great caution
and care while fishing, hunting, hiking, sightseeing or using the
area in any way--leave the area better than you found it. People,
wildlife, the environment and conservation in general can only
benefit.
