Established in 1951 by a group of
sportsmen/conservationists, The Airboat Association of Florida is
one of the oldest, active conservation organizations in the State
of Florida. The Association is a non - profit organization whose
objects are the preservation and conservation of all native
species of flora and fauna in the State of Florida and
particularly in The Everglades, so that residents and our many
visitors will always be able to enjoy them.
The Association maintains a line of communication, whereby, the authorities may at all times find a member of the Association willing and able to assist if any person or persons are in danger or distress within the vastness of the Florida Everglades. The members of the Association may give prompt aid or render any assistance needed to save lives or to rescue lost or distressed persons.
Another program, in which our members gladly participate, involves the protection and propagation of native flora. When necessary, members of The Airboat Association of Florida assist in efforts to replenish depleted species so that native animals might find sufficient shelter and sustenance to maintain themselves in their natural condition and in optimum numbers.
Working with County, State and Federal officials whose duties are to protect wildlife and enforce the game laws, The Association has been instrumental in establishing some of the laws and regulations that help to protect and conserve our unique southern Florida ecosystem.
While promoting the use of airboats in the state, the Association is also participating in the formulation of controls so that enthusiasts may continue to safely enjoy this unusual form of recreation in the ever shrinking areas available.
Business and social gatherings offer opportunities to the Association and its members to promote conservation, cooperation and understanding between sportsmen, wildlife officials, public officials, commercial interests and the general public.
Recognized experts often address and instruct our members on various subjects dealing with conservation, The Everglades, wildlife, ecology and other related topics.
The Airboat Association of Florida is affiliated with the Florida Wildlife Federation and The National Wildlife Federation, and is a member of The Everglades Coordinating Council. Our active participation in these organizations has lead to a leadership role in the south Florida ecological and conservation movement.
The Airboat Association of Florida holds an annual barbecue that provides revenue for the Association and our various activities through out the year.
We believe that our facilities for airboaters are the finest available. The Airboat Association of Florida is located on private property, 18 miles West of Miami on the Tamiami Trail (U.S. #41). The Association maintains its grounds, clubhouse and caretakers home through the diligent efforts of its dedicated members. Membership is by sponsor and the approval of the members.
